I've had my car seat get muddy many times over the years. The upholstery is still very much intact, and once the mud dries you just throw out the clay flakes and it ends up just being a little dusty. Your shoes will clean up just fine too. The one potential problem is shrinking, but you can combat that by putting them on while they're still damp with dry socks and wearing them until they're dry. They'll mold even better to your feet that way.
